Maintaining your hair extensions Once you get your new hair, you're going to want to know exactly what you can and can't do. Proper maintenance directly effects how well your extensions hold up, and how good they look. Here are just a few of the most commonly asked questions posed by potential hair extension clients. CLIENT: Can I continue to lead an active lifestyle wearing Monkey Barrz? ANSWER: YES! YES! YES! Monkey Barrz resists heat and oil. Clients can participate in aerobic exercises, hot tubbing, sauna bathing, and sports. Long time client and water-skiing champion, Suzen Crabtree, ties her hair extensions up before a competition tournament. Throw it up in a braid or a ponytail and go wild! CLIENT: How long do the extensions last? ANSWER: Normally 8-10 weeks depending on your hair texture and rate of growth. The adhesive will last until the stylist removes it, but timely maintenance is important. This is especially true for long term extension clients. CLIENT: Do I have to buy new hair every time I get a touch-up? ANSWER: Not always. In many cases the extension hair can be used for several applications. Of course much of this depends on how well you take care of your hair. Again, a regular maintenance schedule is a must! Your choice of hair is also a factor, the better the hair, the better the wear. CLIENT: Do find my own hair or does my stylist do that? How does it work? ANSWER: Part of our job at Fire Monkey is to advise hairdressers on where they can purchase hair. Established Extensions Artists usually have reliable hair suppliers. If your Extension Artist is looking for a good hair source, have them contact us directly. We have some great places to recommend. CLIENT: Will I still be able to color, highlight and/or perm my hair? ANSWER: Because the Monkey Barrz Adhesive is formulated for professional hair extension services, it's compatible with all of your other chemical hair services. Therefore, touching up those nasty roots will never be a problem. Just work out a maintenance schedule with your stylist. It's their job to put all the pieces together, and we're just a phone call away to assist if necessary. CLIENT: Can I comb and brush my hair like normal? ANSWER: The extension hair can be combed and brushed all the way up to the point of attachment. We recommend "finger" combing between the individual extensions to keep them separated and free from tangling. This makes removing them a quick, easy process that reduces any possible hair damage and keeps the cost down. CLIENT: What about shampooing and conditioning? ANSWER: Certain shampoos and conditioners work better for different types of commercial hair. Your stylist may contact Fire Monkey International directly for product suggestions. Note: In most cases it is advisable to loosely braid the extensions into one to four braids (depending on the thickness of your hair). This will allow you to get the shampoo up to your scalp and rinse it out thoroughly. It will also keep long hair from tangling so it combs out easily! A deep cleansing shampoo should be used occasionally. The points of attachment will remove easier if kept clean and free from cosmetic build-up. Conditioner is applied in a similar manner. Avoid applying the conditioner to the extended part of your scalp or on the Monkey Barrz adhesive. Also, we strongly advise you to never sleep on your wet hair extensions. This is probably the number one cause of tangles in long extended hair. Again, the better the hair, the better the wear! If you need more advice, find someone with naturally long, beautiful hair. Ask them what they do to keep their hair in such great shape. You'll need this advice when your own hair grows out! Ready for some tips on choosing your Hair Extension Artist? click here.
